At around 2am on Saturday 27th October, we were contacted by a male who owned a property in the Thames Ditton area. At the time of calling the male was abroad and he had been alerted by his video doorbell, linked to his phone, which had been pressed. The male further reported that from his doorbell and other linked CCTV that four males were walking around his home acting suspiciously and that they had moved one of the cameras.
Officers quickly attended the scene, but the males had left. We remained in the area, and an eagle-eyed unit spotted a taxi leaving the area, with a number of passengers on board. The vehicle was stopped and the four male passengers, who were all from outside of the Surrey area conveniently matched the descriptions of those seen earlier on CCTV. All four males were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit burglary.
A number of properties were subsequently searched and suspected stolen property was seized. One of the males was charged with breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO) and for Obstructing Police and another of the males was charged for possessing Cannabis. All four males were also bailed with conditions not to enter the policing area of Surrey, to enable officers to conduct further investigative work around the ongoing burglary investigation.
